Featured Project
AI-enabled Multi-domain Effects Demonstrator
AIMED was designed to assist Joint Force Commanders with dynamic, multi-domain Time-Sensitive Targeting decisions. It is the first tangible capability offered to NATO demonstrating dynamic cross domain resource allocation without pre-planning, showcasing the potential for sharing the right data with the right AI at the right time.
Project Highlights
Multi-Domain decision support for the orchestration of converging effects at the speed of relevance. Upon receiving an APP-11 formatted Multi-domain Support Request message, AIMED used an operationally aligned AI developed by NATO ACT Innovation to automatically calculate the probabilities of success and loss, as well as the costs and risks of engaging the designated target with the effectors that are available. From that point, operational staff can collaboratively recommend an option, and the commander can make a decision.
- Situational Awareness consistent across all domains and echelons – “single pane of glass”
- Enabled dynamic orchestration of converging effects
- Operationalized interoperability concepts for legacy data and platformsinteroperability concepts for legacy data and platforms

Operational Value
Dynamic Targeting Support.
When signalled, AIMED used artificial intelligence to identify assets from all domains that are ready and able to deliver the desired effect on a target and present the best options to decision-makers at the speed of relevance.
Fused Multi-Domain Situational Awareness.
To provide AIMED with a complete and fused picture, the Innovation Hub staff have analysed the problem space and created an information architecture to answer that requirement.
Path to improved operational processes.
The Multi-Domain workflow and information flows are complex, and AIMED enabled both to be as efficient as possible.
Strategic priority.
Use case for actualising NATO’s Multi-Domain Operations (MDO) concepts as well as a pathfinder effort for NATO’s Digital Transformation Implementation Strategy (DTIS).
Outcomes
ACT will use the AIMED architecture to test, validate, and refine related Targeting, Situational Awareness, and Fires (effects) requirements. AIMED is being used to test today’s capabilities while exploring tomorrow’s possibilities.
